The Nigerian Doctors Foundation (NDF) proudly participated in the 2025 Global Disability Summit (GDS) held in Berlin, Germany, from April 2–3, 2025. This landmark event, co-hosted by Germany, Jordan, and the International Disability Alliance (IDA), convened global leaders, organizations of persons with disabilities (OPDs), and advocates to advance disability-inclusive development worldwide.
Advocating for Inclusive Healthcare
As a pivotal member of Nigeria’s delegation, NDF reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing healthcare accessibility for persons with disabilities (PWDs). Building upon its extensive work in rural and underserved communities, NDF emphasized the necessity of integrating disability rights into national health policies and practices.
Dr. Sofiri Starson Peterside Jnr, Executive Chairman of NDF, highlighted the organization’s initiatives, stating:
“Our mission is to ensure that every Nigerian, regardless of ability, has access to quality healthcare. Through our advocacy and interventions, we strive to dismantle barriers and promote a healthcare system that respects and upholds the rights of PWDs.”
Collaborative Efforts and National Commitments
NDF’s participation aligned with Nigeria’s broader strategy to promote disability inclusion. In preparation for the summit, the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) organized stakeholder meetings to develop a comprehensive roadmap for the country’s commitments .
